What if one day, you wake up and find out that everyone you know and everything you have are only replicas of your so-called reality? Superficially, they still look the same and are composed of the same physical and molecular make-up but deep inside you, you know that something has gone wrong. What was once familiar to you is no longer what it used to be.
For Project ESC, Jett Ilagan presupposes a fictitious realm that denounces concrete and readily digestible answers. Music being innately abstract, gives way to present a work where ambiguity and arbitrariness can be thought of as a driving force to fuel creation.
Jett Ilagan is an illustrator, digital music composer and a multi-instrumentalist from Laguna, Philippines. He finished a Certificate in Digital Arts & Design in 2010 and AB Multimedia Arts major in Communication in 2014.
Since 2008, he has been actively producing experimental music inside and outside the Metro. His first EP (Extended Play) was released last 2013, entitled Parallel Worlds, a compilation of digital sound works which took inspiration from the literary works of Haruki Murakami and Kobo Abe. He later worked on producing his 2nd EP entitled Coloring Book, which was released last year.
As a musician, he is part of an electronic pop duo called Skywalkers. He frequently goes to gigs and immerses himself within local music scene. He is the lead guitarist Turbomouse and is paired up with a drummer for another band called Kids of City Jail. Currently, he is collaborating with Stegoforrest and a Colorado-based producer, DreamSeánce.
ESC Projects deal with spatial negotiations, transformations and interventions. It revolves around particular locations, contexts and renditions—whether as flights of the imagination or discharges of the creative spirit. ESCape artists are given the freedom to conceive and visualize new landscapes. To ESCape is to create a 1 day project, 1 day show, 1 day exhibition. It is a new model which evolved from the parallel events we have initiated in the 98B Saturday Market X Future Market @ ESCOLTA. It is an experimental platform for creatives.
