The number of likes or follows you have assumes your value in the social media world. We are so occupied by the number of likes we get on any given post. In fact, we often go as far in asking people to like our posts. This in a way has evolved into a type of “monetary value,” exchanging likes for likes or follows for follows.
In Emergence, Miguel Lope Inumerable produced a time-based piece that makes use of these "likes" as a trigger in generating a digital drawing which will be projected projection on the wall. A software collects the data periodically to update the drawing. The data, where this drawing is based, is derived from the likes accumulated from the Facebook Page connected to the software. Every time a person likes the page, another line is formed, thus, transforming the whole image into something new. The resulting piece, at any given time, is a collaboration of the artist and the people who contribute to its existence.
Miguel Lope Inumerable graduated with Bachelors Degree in Science major in Computer Science in Ateneo de Manila University. He works with different media but mostly with traditional drawing and expanded drawing using sculpture, installation and new media. His work process usually involves creating systems through an ordered procedure, resulting in sometimes unplanned outputs.
Selected exhibitions and residencies include Shangyuan Art Museum, Beijing, China (October 2014); Takt Kunstprojektraum, Berlin, Germany (July 2013); Transparent, La Place, Barcelona, Spain (November 2013)
ESC Projects deal with spatial negotiations, transformations and interventions. It revolves around particular locations, contexts and renditions—whether as flights of the imagination or discharges of the creative spirit. ESCape artists are given the freedom to conceive and visualize new landscapes. To ESCape is to create a 1 day project, 1 day show, 1 day exhibition. It is a new model which evolved from the parallel events we have initiated in the 98B Saturday Market X Future Market @ ESCOLTA. It is an experimental platform for creatives.
