ESC Projects: NOMADIC: MARS BUGAOAN
September 19, 2015 | 9AM - 6PM
Ground floor, First United Building
Mars Bugaoan installs his project in Escolta for this September’s ESC Project. Initially mounted in UP Diliman (Crawl Installation, Dec 2014), NOMADIC is a series of wanderings and wonderings. As a site-responsive and ephemeral installation, the different visual experiences are induced by the various places and venues coupled with his material medium. The heated vinyl plastic depicts the idea of life’s transitory nature – the uncertainty of universal condition. According to Bugaoan, “It speaks of all the things that we are trying to deal with every day, the unstable reality that we are trying to transcend.” As an artist, he is fascinated with using plastic because of its unfortunate abundance and flexibility. The process of manipulation results into the creation of invasive forms that provokes introspection and questions.
Mars Bugaoan (b. 1988) graduated cum laude at the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design. His creative outputs include fine prints, photographs, mixed media works, and installations. He is currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts degree at the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
ESC Projects deal with spatial negotiations, transformations and interventions. It revolves around particular locations, contexts and renditions-- whether as flights of the imagination or discharges of the creative spirit. ESCape artists are given the freedom to conceive and visualize new landscapes. To ESCape is to create a 1 day project, 1 day show, 1 day exhibition. It is a new model which evolved from the parallel events we have initiated in the 98B Saturday Market X Future Market @ ESCOLTA. It is an experimental platform for creatives.
